John 'Bamber' Donaldson's cause of dead confirmed as inquest opened ahead of kill trial

An inquest has been opened into the tragic death of John Donaldson, affectionately known as ‘Bamber’. Assistant coroner Paul Appleby led the proceedings at Teesside Coroner’s Court, confirming that the 34-year-old was identified through fingerprint records from a national database.

John Donaldson lost his life following an alleged murder in Lealholm Walk on Thursday, November 21, last year.

Post-Mortem Findings

A post-mortem examination, conducted by Dr Jennifer Bolton, revealed that John suffered two stab wounds—one to the left abdomen and another to the lower left chest. The latter wound was determined to be fatal.

Following these findings, Mr Appleby adjourned the inquest, which was held at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Family Statement

After John’s death, his grieving family released a statement through Cleveland Police, describing him as a “much-loved son, brother, uncle, grandson, and nephew.” They also requested privacy to mourn their loss, concluding with:

“RIP ‘Bamber’.”

Murder Investigation and Court Case

A murder investigation was launched immediately after the incident, which took place outside a house in Lealholm Walk, a residential area off Birchington Avenue in Whale Hill and Grangetown.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, responded to the scene at about 9 PM. Despite receiving medical treatment, John was transported to James Cook University Hospital, where he sadly passed away.

Suspect and Trial

Following the incident, Andrew Clark, 38, of Harlech Close, Eston, was charged with murder. When he appeared at Teesside Crown Court in November, he pleaded not guilty. His trial is set to take place later this year.

The tragic death of John ‘Bamber’ Donaldson has left his family and community in mourning. As the murder trial approaches, the investigation continues to seek justice. His loved ones remember him as a cherished family member, and the inquest will resume in due course.
