Yeovil Motor Show gears up for greatest event yet with record turnout

Car and motorcycle fans are gearing up for the first-ever John Haynes Classic motor show, slated for Sunday, September 7, at Haynes Motor Museum. The event marks 40 years since John Haynes OBE opened the museum in July 1985, a tribute to his deep-rooted love for all things automotive.

Spanning five outdoor zones around the museum, the day will be packed with displays, demonstrations, talks, and hands-on activities. A highlight will be the Haynes Manual Display, spotlighting vehicles featured in the iconic Haynes workshop manuals—a testament to John Haynes’s knack for demystifying complex mechanics for enthusiasts everywhere.

The museum is calling on owners of cars and bikes tied to Haynes Manuals to showcase their rides, especially those with unique tales of personal triumphs, mechanical hurdles, or epic road trips. Joining them will be treasures from the museum’s own collection, like the 1971 Ford Escort Mexico—a fixture for over 35 years—the 1965 ‘Project 50’ Mustang, and the 2001 Citroën Saxo Max Power, both pivotal in shaping their respective manuals.

Chris Scudds, the museum’s chief executive, said, “Since we unveiled plans for the show late last year, the response has been overwhelming. Car and bike clubs are clamoring to join, and visitors are snapping up tickets. This will be a momentous day, celebrating John’s legacy and his passion for vehicles. I can’t wait to hear the incredible stories tied to the manuals—they’ll make the event truly special. With four other zones in play, it’s shaping up to be a must-see spectacle!”

Other draws include the Car and Motorcycle Club Arena, where hundreds of veteran, vintage, and classic vehicles will dazzle onlookers, and the Live Show Paddock, hosting talks, debates, and a vehicle parade that brings the Haynes Manuals to life. The Discovery Zone will offer workshops, STEM activities, and live demos for kids and adults alike, while the Market will feature local food, drinks, crafts, and automotive stalls with goods and collectables for vintage, classic, and modern rides.

As an Arts Council England-accredited museum and charity, the John Haynes Classic will raise funds to support the museum’s educational programs and conservation work.
