Thugs beat up a man so badly that doctors believed he would die

Two men have been jailed for a violent attack in a Peterborough bar, which left one victim with life-threatening injuries. Lulzim Sinimati, 27, and Fatos Kertolli, 36, claimed they acted in self-defence, but CCTV footage proved otherwise.

The brutal attack took place at Bar 42, Broadway, Peterborough, around 3 AM on July 20. The victim was punched, kicked, and stamped on in a sustained assault that resulted in serious injuries, including a brain bleed and multiple fractures.

CCTV Captures Harrowing Attack

During the trial in December 2024, CCTV footage played a crucial role in securing convictions. The video showed:

  • The victim being repeatedly punched in the face.
  • The man falling to the floor, where he was kicked and stamped on multiple times.
  • A second victim suffering minor facial injuries.

One of the men was so severely injured that doctors initially believed he would not survive. He was left with a bleed on the brain and fractures to his spine and face.

Court Sentences & Restraining Orders

At Cambridge Crown Court on February 19, 2025, both men were sentenced:

  • Lulzim Sinimati, of Dogsthorpe Road, Millfield, Peterborough, was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.
  • Fatos Kertolli, of Garton End Road, Millfield, Peterborough, received a 5.5-year sentence.
  • Both men were also given 10-year restraining orders, prohibiting them from contacting the victims.

Police Condemn ‘Vicious Assault’

Detective Constable Dylan Lenton, who led the investigation, strongly condemned the attack:

“Both men claimed they acted in self-defence, but CCTV footage showed them viciously assaulting the victim in a sustained attack. The injuries were so severe that, at one point, it was feared he wouldn’t survive.”

This case highlights the devastating impact of violent crime, as well as the importance of CCTV evidence in ensuring justice.

A Warning Against Street Violence

The brutal nature of this attack serves as a stark warning about the consequences of street violence. Both attackers now face years behind bars, while their victim will likely suffer lasting physical and psychological effects.

Authorities encourage anyone who witnesses violent crime to report it immediately, as police continue efforts to make Peterborough safer.
