MP Andy MacNae heads out on patrols in Darwen

On February 19, 2025, Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, joined forces with Darwen’s MP Andy MacNae, local councillors, and neighbourhood officers for a patrol through the town. The group used the opportunity to tackle pressing concerns impacting Darwen and its nearby villages while observing firsthand how policing strategies adapt to the area’s unique blend of rural and urban landscapes.

During the town centre ‘walkaround,’ officers outlined their approach to maintaining safety across Darwen’s diverse terrain. Rossendale and Darwen Labour MP Andy MacNae praised the visit, stating, “It was a pleasure to host Clive Grunshaw in Darwen and showcase our neighbourhood policing in action. His dedication to visible policing and boosting officer numbers is clear. We covered everything from road safety to tackling anti-social behaviour, followed by a stroll through the town centre and market hall.”

MacNae added, “Recent months have brought real progress in meeting residents’ needs and enhancing town safety. Strengthening ties between our police and community remains a top priority.”

Darwen South Labour Councillor Anthony Shaw, who initially invited Grunshaw earlier this year, echoed the sentiment. “I’m thrilled Clive accepted my invitation to see the outstanding efforts of our Darwen neighbourhood policing team in fighting crime and keeping our town secure,” Shaw said. “We explored their ongoing work and broader plans to increase police presence. The strong partnership we’ve forged with the team, along with their incredible community engagement, fills me with pride.”

Reflecting on the visit, Grunshaw remarked, “It was encouraging to hear from the MP and Councillors about the solid bonds they’ve built with local officers, and to see the policing team’s genuine enthusiasm for serving Darwen.”
