A dog owner faces an anxious wait to discover his punishment after his Alsatian bit a man outside a community centre. The incident occurred on July 20 last year near Whale Hill Community Centre, as detailed in Teesside Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that the victim was heading to the Post Office with parcels when the Alsatian barked, lunged, and sank its teeth into his elbow. Ben Heke, the dog’s owner, insisted the animal was leashed, tethered to a pole outside a shop, and muzzled at the time.
Despite Heke’s defense, the 37-year-old from Slater Road, Grangetown, was found guilty on Wednesday of owning or being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused injury—an offense he had previously denied. The magistrates deferred his sentencing to Teesside Crown Court, scheduled for March 19, and released him on unconditional bail until then.
