A house fire in Bucknall has sparked a police investigation after firefighters confirmed they would be passing the case on for further inquiry. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The blaze broke out earlier today at a semi-detached house on Theodore Road. The property had already been abandoned since a previous fire in August 2020. According to local residents, the house has become a frequent target for vandals and trespassers.
Neighbours Call for Action as Property Burns Again
One concerned neighbour expressed frustration over the situation, telling StokeonTrentLive, “This is the third time it’s been on fire. I think it needs knocking down—it’s too unstable, and kids seem to hang around. The fire has been coming through the roof.”
With the house in a deteriorating condition and now experiencing multiple fires, residents fear that it poses a serious safety risk to the community.
Firefighters Battle Flames with Large Response Team
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service responded swiftly to the fire after receiving a call at approximately 1:15 PM. Fire crews from Hanley, Longton, and Burslem stations arrived at the scene, along with an aerial lift vehicle to assist in containing the flames.
According to Hanley Station Manager Ant Ball, around 18 firefighters worked throughout the day to bring the fire under control.
He stated, “The fire was contained to a single dwelling of a semi-detached house. We have crews working on the site to ensure it’s safe, and a building inspector will be along to evaluate the stability of the property shortly.”
Police to Investigate Possible Arson
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, Station Manager Ball confirmed that the case will be handed over to the police for further investigation.
“At this time, we cannot confirm whether or not it is the result of arson—that will be for the police to decide,” he added.
With the property having a history of fires, authorities will now work to determine if this latest blaze was accidental or intentionally set.
Safety Warning Issued to Parents and Residents
Following the incident, Station Manager Ball issued a warning to parents in the area, urging them to be mindful of where their children are playing.
“We would advise parents of local children to be cautious as to where they are playing. There are a few derelict properties in the area that may be accessible and unsafe. If the building has been left unwatched, you can’t know what condition the property is in or what dangers might be present,” he said.
The repeated fires at the abandoned home on Theodore Road have raised concerns among both residents and authorities. With the latest blaze now under police investigation, the community hopes for swift action to prevent further incidents. In the meantime, officials urge caution around unsafe structures, particularly for children who may be drawn to exploring them.
