'Drug drops' at Lancashire prison on the rise as cops stop nearby cars in crackdown

A man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs to HMP Kirkham as police intensify efforts to tackle organised drug drops at the Lancashire prison. The arrest comes as part of Operation Washer, a targeted initiative by the Fylde Rural Task Force to disrupt criminal activity in and around the prison.

Increased Police Surveillance at HMP Kirkham

Authorities have reported a rise in organised drug drops at HMP Kirkham in recent months. In response, officers from the Fylde Rural Task Force and the Road Crime Team launched a covert operation on Tuesday, February 18, monitoring suspicious activities and vehicles near the prison on Freckleton Road.

During the operation, police stopped multiple vehicles, carried out 10 stop searches, and gathered crucial intelligence to assist in future investigations.

Man Arrested in Connection with Organised Drug Drop

One of the key breakthroughs during the crackdown was the identification of a vehicle linked to a previous organised drug drop at the prison. The driver, a 54-year-old man from Burnley, was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the supply of Class A and Class B drugs.

In a statement, Fylde Police confirmed:

“During the evening, the Roads Policing Team identified a vehicle linked to an organised drugs drop at HMP Kirkham earlier last month. The driver, a male aged 54 from Burnley, was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A and B.”

Police Pledge Continued Action Against Prison Drug Smuggling

Authorities have assured that they will maintain a strong presence around HMP Kirkham and continue using their stop-search powers to deter criminal activity. Officers have vowed to collaborate closely with the prison to prevent further drug-related incidents.

Fylde Police emphasized:

“We will continue to work with the prison, increase our presence in the area, and use our stop-search powers where necessary.”

The arrest marks a significant step in the fight against illegal drug smuggling at HMP Kirkham. With intelligence-led policing and increased surveillance, authorities aim to put an end to organised drug drops and criminal activity in the area. Residents and prison officials can expect continued police action to ensure security remains a priority.
