Cambridgeshire Police have issued a CCTV appeal following an attempted burglary at the Cambridge Cheese Company, located on All Saints Passage in Cambridge. The break-in occurred earlier this month, with the culprit smashing a glass door to enter the premises. While it remains uncertain whether any items were stolen, the incident has prompted a full investigation.
Photos shared on social media by the cheese shop revealed the damaged front door, hinting at the force used to gain access. In a lighthearted response, a spokesperson for the Cambridge Cheese Company took to Facebook, saying, “We’re not sure if the burglars used a 30kg Bergler cheese to smash our door last week, but we’re choosing to focus on the positive.
Instead of fretting over the glass repair bill, we’re spotlighting a rare gem from our cellar—a sweet, nutty, and fruity Bavarian mountain cheese with a smooth texture and delicate crystals. It’s been maturing for a year, and thankfully, the intruders didn’t snag it. It’s on sale now!”
The burglary took place between 6pm on February 12 and 9am on February 13, according to police reports. A crime has been officially logged under reference number 35/10713/25, and officers are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV footage from the surrounding area to come forward.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson stated, “We’re investigating a burglary at the Cambridge Cheese Company on All Saints Passage. The glass door was shattered to gain entry, though it’s unclear if anything was taken. We urge anyone with information or footage from nearby cameras to contact us online or call 101, quoting the crime reference 35/10713/25.”
As the investigation continues, the cheese shop remains open, turning an unfortunate event into an opportunity to showcase its unique offerings while police work to identify those responsible.
