An active Avon and Somerset Police officer has admitted guilt to several grave charges, including the creation of indecent images of children. PC James Gullis, stationed in East Somerset, entered his plea following an investigation triggered by intelligence from the National Crime Agency.

Arrested and suspended from duty on December 22, 2023, the 28-year-old confessed to offenses uncovered during the probe. He is slated for sentencing at Exeter Crown Court on March 19 for making indecent images of children across categories A, B, and C, as well as possessing prohibited images of children and extreme pornography.

Alongside the criminal proceedings, Avon and Somerset Police’s Professional Standards Department is conducting a separate inquiry into possible violations of professional conduct. Assistant Chief Constable Joanne Hall described the crimes as “profoundly serious,” noting that the force acted decisively with an in-depth investigation and immediate suspension upon receiving the tip-off.

“With his conviction secured, we’ll expedite our internal misconduct proceedings to ensure he can never return to law enforcement,” Hall added. She emphasized that the vast majority of the force’s personnel remain committed to public safety and community service, expressing their shared dismay at Gullis’s actions.
