A 23-year-old Polish woman, Julia Wandelt, who has claimed to be Madeleine McCann, was apprehended at Bristol Airport alongside a 60-year-old woman from Wales. The arrests, made on suspicion of stalking and harassing Madeleine’s parents, occurred shortly after Wandelt’s arrival on Wednesday, February 19.
According to WalesOnline, Wandelt’s legal representative, Surjit Singh Clair, confirmed she was detained that evening as she entered the UK. Leicestershire Police, overseeing the investigation, also arrested the older woman as part of the ongoing probe.
A police spokesperson stated: “On the evening of February 19, two women—a 23-year-old from Poland and a 60-year-old from Wales—were taken into custody at Bristol Airport. Both are suspected of stalking causing serious alarm or distress and remain in custody as inquiries proceed.”
Madeleine McCann vanished at age three during a family vacation with her parents, Gerry and Kate, in Portugal in 2007, a case that remains unsolved. Wandelt gained widespread attention last year when she began asserting online that she was the missing child.
