A “cowardly” man from Chippenham who raped a 14-year-old on a night out has been jailed. Ethan Baily, 20, of Hill Rise, was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty at trial in October 2024.
The incident occurred on October 14, 2021, when Baily was seventeen. During a night out, he raped a 14-year-old on a footpath by the golf course leading to Monkton Park.
Baily will be on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life, in addition to serving his sentence. He also received a lifetime restraining order from the victim.
Detective Constable Sam Long stated, “This was a cowardly and despicable act committed against a young, vulnerable teenage girl.” She was violated in the worst way possible and left unable to defend herself.
“The victim demonstrated enormous courage and resilience, resulting in Ethan Baily’s unanimous conviction. Baily expressed no regret for his actions during the court case.
“I hope today’s sentencing sends a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated, victims will be supported, and offenders will be held accountable. I would urge anyone who has been the victim of a sexual offence to contact us. We will support you and continue to bring perpetrators to justice.”
