2 people taken to hospital after house fire in Middlesbrough

Two individuals were hospitalized following a house fire in Middlesbrough’s Netherfields area on Tothill Avenue. Emergency responders rushed to the scene around 11:50am on Thursday, February 20, after the blaze broke out.

Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade extracted three people from the burning end-terrace home, where the kitchen was completely gutted. Smoke spread through the hallway, living room, and two bedrooms, and images from the site revealed a broken upstairs window.

A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) spokesperson reported: “We were alerted at 11:55am to a fire at a residential address on Tothill Avenue. We sent three ambulance crews and a clinical team leader. One person was treated and released at the scene, while two others were taken to hospital for further care.”

According to a Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson: “Crews used two breathing apparatuses and a hose reel jet to tackle the fire. They provided first aid and oxygen to those affected. Three people were rescued and passed to ambulance services, with three more treated on-site. The kitchen suffered total fire and smoke damage, with lighter smoke impact in the hallway, two bedrooms, and living room.” Teams from Middlesbrough and Thornaby stayed until 1:20pm to manage the aftermath.
