Durham Constabulary has confirmed the discovery of a body during the search for Jenny Hall, the 23-year-old runner from County Durham who went missing earlier this week. The search had been ongoing for five days, with police urging the public to avoid disturbing the area where efforts were focused.
Timeline of Events
Jenny was last seen on Tuesday, February 18, leaving her home at Barracks Farm, Tow Law, shortly after 3 PM. Authorities intensified their search efforts after her red Ford Focus was found earlier in the week on the B6278 road, between Stanhope and Eggleston.
Search Efforts and Discovery
Police and specialist partners conducted round-the-clock searches in remote areas. Tragically, at 9:30 AM on Sunday, February 23, a body was found in Teesdale, a secluded location.
In a statement, Durham Constabulary said:
“We’re sorry to report that officers searching for missing woman Jenny Hall have sadly found a body.”
Investigation and Family Support
Authorities have stated that formal identification is yet to take place. However, Jenny’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.
Police added that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body.
Gratitude for Public Assistance
Durham Constabulary expressed appreciation for the public’s help in spreading appeals and thanked expert mountain rescue teams and other organisations for their intensive work alongside officers on the ground.
This tragic outcome has deeply saddened the community and all those who followed the search efforts. As Jenny’s family grieves this heartbreaking loss, authorities continue to offer support. The investigation remains ongoing, with final formal identification expected soon.
